This project features three exhibitions developed in collaboration with three international art institutes. For the first (Palais de Tokyo), curator Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel has invited the artist Fouad Bouchoucha to represent the themes of transiency and temporality in De Hal. 'Landscape' is an installation that invites the public to penetrate an unusual and mysterious environment.
Amsterdam, May 27, 2014 — The Stedelijk
Museum Amsterdam and cultural foundation
De Verdieping, present the series Trouw
Invites..., three exhibitions in the basement of
TrouwAmsterdam, developed in collaboration
with three international art institutes, Palais de
Tokyo (Paris), Beirut (Cairo), and the New
Museum (New York). During Trouw Invites, the
building’s monumental space will become the
stage for a hitherto unseen cooperative
venture in an environment where art and club
culture come into direct confrontation.
The famous nightclub TrouwAmsterdam and
the cultural foundation De Verdieping will close
their doors on January 1, 2015. In the past five
years, an innovative and trailblazing
international club, exhibition, and public
program have been organized in the former
printing works on the Wibautstraat in
Amsterdam-Oost. And with the end in sight,
themes such as “transience” and
“impermanence” have started to play a major
role. However, as the public has now come to
expect of TrouwAmsterdam, this end will not
take place in silence.
The series Trouw Invites... follows the
successful program Stedelijk at Trouw, a
series of exhibitions and performances
organized in cooperation between the Stedelijk
Museum and TrouwAmsterdam that explored
the area where art, dance, and club culture
come together. This time, three other institutes
take their turns filling the basement of
TrouwAmsterdam with art. Each of the three
institutes are inviting an artist to depict the
themes of “transience” and “impermanence.”
The artists will develop new work specifically
created for this series of exhibitions, building
up a total experience that brings to life the
themes and specific context of the building in
an entirely personal way. Trouw Invites... will
take place from July 3 until December 7, 2014,
and each exhibition can be viewed for one
month.

Trouw invites palais de tokyo
3 Jul - 3 Aug 2014
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and cultural foundation De Verdieping, present the series Trouw Invites..., three exhibitions in the basement of TrouwAmsterdam. The first exhibition is by art institution Palais de Tokyo (Paris), with an installation of artist Fouad Bouchoucha.
During the first edition of Trouw Invites… we’ll welcome the art institution Palais de Tokyo (Paris). Curator Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel has invited the artist Fouad Bouchoucha to represent the themes of transiency and temporality in De Hal. The monumental space will serve as the stage for this unique collaboration in an environment where visual art and club culture confront each other head-on.
Landscape
Fouad Bouchoucha (1981, Marseille, France) will create a new piece called Landscape (2014): an installation that invites the public to penetrate an unusual and mysterious environment. The viewer is facing a constant and dense landscape of fog that forbids any visibility. Fouad Bouchoucha, inspired by the unachieved novel Le Mont Analogue (1944) by René Daumel, is thus using the imagination of each individual stepping in the installation. Landscape is a work that operates as a time catalyst and it uses to memory of its viewers; a landscape of images from the past, invisible to the naked eye, but tangible for the viewer.
Opening event
To kickstart the exhibition, there will be a grand opening on Thursday July 3rd, hosted by Hendrik Folkerts (Curator, Stedelijk Museum). There will also be a lecture by Jean de Loisy, Director of Palais de Tokyo, and an interview with artist Fouad Bouchoucha by curator Rebecca Lamarch-Vadel. Additionally, Palais de Tokyo will organize one of their infamous nightly parties at Trouw.
