“It’s strange to keep on thinking that painting is made to be seen", this quotation of Philippe Sollers is the point of departure and the paradoxical modus operandi that characterizes the entire work of the artist. La galleria presenta anche Alessandro Dal Pont nell'ambito di Lambretto.
Solo Show
With a solo exhibition of Valerio Carrubba, Pianissimo opens the new gallery space of via Ventura 5.
“It’s strange to keep on thinking that painting is made to be seen", this quotation of Philippe Sollers is the point of departure and the
paradoxical modus operandi that characterizes the entire work of the artist.
For this occasion, continuing a cycle of paintings begun in 2003, are shown four new oils on steel, whose internal structure consists of
being painted twice: each one is in fact, the exact replica of itself, obtained through a second layer of paint that covers and reproduces
perfectly the first one lying below.
To amplify such a condition of circularity and self-reference of language, the titles of the paintings contribute: So many dynamos, Delia
failed, Nina Ricci ran in and Murder for a jar of red rum. They are palindrome phrases, which are phrases that can be read, indifferently,
from right to left, or vice versa, remaining unchanged.
All the attention is transferred from the object to the process, from the Image to the praxis of its passing, creating so, in accordance to
what assorted by Sollers, a scene of art which is radically “elsewhere", over what is given to see…
Valerio Carrubba was born in Siracusa in 1975. He lives and works in Milan.
