Tomislav Gotovac will present...
Tomislav Gotovac (1937) is considered the precursor of performance art in
the former Yugoslavia.
He began his career with photographic works and then he moved on to
produce collages, films and performances. The artist made a number of
avant-garde structuralist films, which positioned him alongside
experimental filmmakers like Michael Snow and Peter Frampton. In his
works, Gotovac plays close attention to procedures of film directing,
including quotes and extracts of images and music as references and
homages to other film directors and musicians who have inspired him.
1.Performance " Hommage to Billie Holiday 1915-1959 ", at 6.30 pm

This performance is one of the performances dedicated to the singer and
jazz music.
2. Projection of the films
The films (in BETA copy) will be projected in a loop (except during the
performance).
- The Forenoon of a Faun (1963), experimental documentary, 16 mm, b/w, 9
min.
The film consists of three sequences shot by a fixed camera: the first
shows the balcony of a hospital with patients, (sound track from the film
"Vivre sa vie" by Jean-Luc Godard), the second is a scraped wall and the
third is a crossroad with pedestrians and cars (sound taken from the film
"The Time-Machine " de George Pal).
- Straight Line (Stevens-Duke) (1964) : experimental documentary, 16 mm,
b/w, 8 min.
The tram rails are filmed from the moving tram with a fixed shot. (sound :
The Creole Love Call" by Duke Ellington)
- Blue Rider (1964): experimental documentary, 16 mm, b, 12 min.
The cameraman, under the direction of Tomislav Gotovovac, films, with the
camera on his shoulder, the people they meet by chance in the restaurants,
inns and coffee houses of Zagreb. (sound track from the American tv serial
" Bonanza ")
- Circle (Jutkevitch-Count) (1964), experimental documentary, 16 mm, b/,
12 min.
The 360-degree movement of the camera, on the top of a building records
the surrounding landscape (sound: "Sent for you yesterday" et "Here you
come today" de Count Basie)
- Glenn Miller (2000) : experimental documentary, 35 mm, colour, 26 min.
The film was shot with a camera attached to a car, moving continuously in
a circle.
